Granite Peak Ski Area, at Rib Mountain State Park, will be hosting a public meeting at 6:00 p.m. on December 7, 2016 at the Sundance Chalet at Granite Peak to discuss plans for ski area expansion. Granite Peak will be presenting updated plans at the
meeting as well as listening to public comments.
Granite Peak Ski Area is a family owned business that has operated downhill skiing at Rib Mountain State Park since 2000. Skiing operations have been in place at Granite Peak since the 1930’s. Granite Peak Ski Area is a proud and supportive community member and has partnered with Wausau area businesses to create a large and valuable economic resource for the region. Since its Neighborhood Conversation meeting on August 17th, Granite Peak and its professional designers have been meeting with neighbors and updating efforts to create an environmentally and economically strong plan. Granite Peak officials believe the correct balance can be attained protecting valuable resources and ensuring a strong future for Granite Peak and Wausau area businesses.
“We intend to continue to listen to interested citizens as we move forward in the expansion planning process”, said Peter Biermeier, Project Manager for Granite Peak. “The public’s recommendations and thoughts will allow us to provide a deeply
reviewed and valuable plan in the long run”.
Granite Peak intends to continue to work on its plan through early 2017, and expects to provide its draft plan to the Wisconsin DNR during 2017. The Wisconsin DNR will at that time undertake its own review of the plan.
Granite Peak staff are creating a Master Plan Update website in an effort to continually update interested parties.
