Rib Mountain State Park has been providing downhill ski opportunities and winter recreation since the 1930’s. Skiing was new to North America when the Rib Mountain ski area fully opened for business in 1937. At the time, Rib Mountain had the longest ski run in the nation, and the tallest vertical in the Midwest. That proud heritage has continued to this day, most recently as Granite Peak Ski Area, a family owned business that has operated the ski area at Rib Mountain since 2000.

Granite Peak has continuously upgraded the ski facility with new lifts and visitor services based on a plan created in 1984. This has been done in the forefront of skiing’s technological improvements and for the service needs of today’s guests. Today, Granite Peak is again updating the master plan for the ski area. The plan will explore opportunities for maximizing the existing winter business and assesses the potential for introducing new summer activities. The master plan update will serve as a blueprint for future development of multi-season activities at Granite Peak.
