EDITOR: We live in a pretty unique place. Our community is small enough where you still can bump into someone you know on the street. Because we’re located between Minneapolis and Green Bay, we see our share of arts that stop at the Grand Theater. And some of my favorite restaurants are very close to home.
But if given the choice, I choose to be outside. From April through November, I’m in a fishing boat. Come December through March, I’ll be at Granite Peak. Ten minutes out my back door and life’s stresses disappear.
I’ve grown up on “Rib,” as we called it back then. It is, however, a different place than it was 30 years ago.
With the new runs, speed lifts and a new chalet — although I’m partial to the historic one — Granite Peak has so much to offer.
I continue to enjoy skiing with my friends and now my son. The new development, runs and terrain parks draw skiers and snowboarders from Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and southern Wisconsin. I usually ask where people are from when I ride up with them on the lift.
In my opinion, more runs will bring more economic growth to our area. Granite Peak has the best skiing in the Midwest. Let’s continue giving our locals and out-of-towners more reasons to keep coming back.
